It doesn’t matter whether you’re thinking of selling your home or want to add touches of luxury, we here at Aliwood thought we’d give you some ideas that will boost the value of your home!

If you’re thinking of selling your home, or just want to make your house more valuable, there are some simple things that you can do to boost its value. Often, these ideas don’t need to be expensive. Yes, you can rip out your windows and fit new ones, or add a dormer and convert your loft, but these are extremely costly. There are smaller but just as effective changes that you can make instead which will still let you reap the rewards.

Giving your garden some TLC

Here at Aliwood, we take great pride in garden spaces. They are amazing in the summer, and most importantly, they’re great for social distancing. Your garden is also a great place to escape to (during the warmer months of course) after a long day at work. It’s the perfect place to sit back with a nice glass of wine and relax.

If you’re not doing so already, spend some time getting your garden in good shape. Cut back that tree which is blocking the sun and trim those hedges which you’ve been putting off doing for the last few months!

If you want to push the boat out, and you are happy to spend a little more money, a summer house at the end of your garden can go a very long way. This perhaps could be better known as the ‘man cave’, and certainly add that wow factor for potential buyers.

Add a drop kerb

Adding a parking facility to your property can also be a fantastic way to increase worth. Most people nowadays want a home with a drive or at the very least a parking space nearby. If your home is lacking in parking options, you might want to consider writing to your council and enquiring about a drop kerb. Once you’ve gone through the application process, it’s estimated that a single parking space to your home could see your property’s value increase by 5%. Definitely something to consider, right!

Roof lanterns

Quite often, some rooms in your home can lack natural lighting. If you’re looking to give your living space a makeover before putting your property on the market, adding a glass roof lantern can work well in your favour. They significantly increase the value of your home and help to reduce monthly energy bills, which is a huge selling point particularly for first time buyers!

Think of the exterior of your home

First impressions count! It’s so important that your property from the front looks as good as it can. Within the first 10 seconds of your potential buyers pulling up to your home, they’re going to decide whether they like it or not.

It might not boost the value of your home directly, but it will increase the general aesthetic, which is also very important. Consider adding some artificial plants or invest in a new door. These little changes will show how you care for your home and make it more appealing for those that may be looking to purchase!

There are so many options which can help you to increase the value of your home without breaking the bank. Use the internet to carry out research and then build on these ideas with your own thoughts.
