There are just a couple of weeks to go until Christmas...

We thought we’d delve into some Winter inspiration and discuss our favourite roof lantern Christmas décor, decorations and the activities that will bring a little festive cheer to your home this Christmas!

A Roof Lantern Creates the Perfect Atmosphere

There’s nothing better than the ambience at Christmas time, especially within the home. A roof lantern helps to create this effortlessly. It allows you to escape to your own little sanctuary, wrapped up by the fire whilst the weather outside is crisp and cold. Enjoy your little slice of luxury and indulge with some furry throws and cushions, some fragrant candles and your favourite winter tipple to warm you up. Imagine being able to watch the snow fall from your personal grotto. Sounds perfect to us!

Winter Décor

There’s something magical about Christmas, being cosied up next to the glow of the tree, perhaps the smell of gingerbread wafting through the house. This is the time of year that our roof lanterns really get their time to shine.

Natural textures, such as hessian, wood and chunky knit are extremely popular at this time of year and enhance that natural, open plan feeling. Although red, green, gold and silver are often the go to colours in December – ’tis the season after all – neutral colours at Christmas have become a huge trend, in the form of Scandi design. This minimalist concept goes perfectly with natural textures and furniture too. With a focus on simplicity, anyone can create a Scandi style haven in their home this winter; perfect for the large gatherings we can have now!

Decorations for Your Roof Lantern

Aliwood roof lanterns are statement decorations by themselves, but for that extra Christmas sparkle, we have a few decorative suggestions!

Paper Chains

These double up as fun family activity. Buy lots of different colours and sparkly paper, so that the light reflects off of them. How festive!

Lights

There’s nothing more beautiful than glittering lights at Christmas! A string of fairy lights around the inside of your roof lantern will ensure that it is the focal point of the room and opens up the space.

Tinsel

It’s simple, easy to put up and of course, very festive. Tinsel will frame the centre piece of the room, adding texture and vibrancy to your lantern room.

Wreaths

Wreath making has always been popular, but over the last 18 months, it’s become a hobby all around the globe for many! Wreath making is a fun activity that the whole family can get involved in. Take a stroll and see what you can forage. Dry foliage such as holly and eucalyptus work really well for these creations. Add some dried orange and cinnamon sticks for an authentic Christmassy fragrance and hang around your roof lantern.

The Tree

Last but not least, the tree! If you haven’t got your tree up, what are you waiting for?! We would recommend putting it up in the same room as your roof lantern. It’s the perfect excuse to transform your room into the festive heart of the house. The reflection of your fairy light embellished tree in the glass above will add to the festive atmosphere, creating a stunning colourful scene.

Activities Around Your Roof Lantern

The last 18 months have taught us to appreciate the now. For most of us, this will be our first proper Christmas in two years, so what better way to make up for lost time than to get the family round and get stuck in with some Christmas activities!

Cocktails and Mulled Wine

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a few novelty concoctions! Why not try a bit of mixology in your established festive hub. It can be as easy as a cranberry cosmo, but if cocktails aren’t your tipple of choice, indulge in a homemade mulled wine recipe that you can enjoy under your roof lantern.

Baking and Hot Chocolate

We’ll pretend that this one is for the kids, but we all enjoy a bit of a bake off! Make some simple gingerbread and get decorating with icing and sweeties. Finish off with a hot chocolate with all the trimmings to make your evening really special!

Board Games

It wouldn’t be Christmas without board games! Crack out the monopoly after a few glasses of sherry and enjoy some quality family time – although we know that for many households, monopoly can end in tears!

A Christmas Spread

A roof lantern sets the scene for a beautiful party. Enjoy a Christmas buffet underneath the winter night sky! The cheese board, the crackers, the meats – the setting is perfect, making the your skylight room the hub of the home. Afterwards, open up the bar and dance the night away under the stars with your loved ones!

Wintery Warm

A quick word on warmth this Winter. There is a common misconception that flat roof skylights do not have thermal properties and allow heat to escape. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! They’re completely weatherproof, and the thermal insulation and glazing helps the room to retain heat extremely well. So, you can rest assured that your roof lantern will keep things cosy and comfortable this winter.
