Do Roof Lanterns Make the Room Cold?

Making the room too cold is a concern that many first-time roof lantern buyers have. At Aliwood, our timber roof lanterns actually retain heat in the cooler months.

With the ability to maintain temperatures, we use resilient and durable materials which give your home the wow factor but keep your roof lantern room insulated and comfortable.

Effortlessly Preventing the Cold

With single glazed lanterns, there is always the risk that rooms could get cold in the winter months. Efficient glazing eradicates the problem completely, meaning that your roof lantern room or orangery is suitable for use all year round! It’s all about considering high quality products that include thermal insulation. They require no maintenance and regulate the temperature within the room accordingly.

Thermal Insulation

Thermal breaks play a huge part in the efficiency of our products. Our roof lanterns each have carefully designed thermal breaks, which prevents heat from passing through the lantern. Our thermal breaks are made from resin, silicone, and Styrofoam. This puts an air cap in-between the components, which provides an insulating layer of air; retaining heat when need and providing you with consistent temperatures in your home.

Our e-coated glass is renowned for its heating and cooling energy, depending on the temperature of your room or house. E-coating, also known as emissivity glass, blocks infrared light from infiltrating through the glass and protects against UV rays regardless of the season, protecting our fabrics and furniture from colour-fading.

Additionally, we offer a wide variety of glazing options with our timber roof lanterns, which are the key to retaining even more heat within your home. We use insulated glazing with 4-16-4mm toughened glass, with a warm edge spacer bar. Furthermore, our high-quality glass acts as a sound barrier, preventing external disruptions and providing additional security to your home.

Durable Components

Alongside the thermal break, the components used to make our roof lanterns are extremely important when aiding room insulation in the winter. At Aliwood, we use premium grade knot free Redwood timber, which is recognised for its heavy-duty lifespan, appealing design and weatherproof abilities. The exceptional quality of wood makes it a staple in timber roof lantern installations. Our designs are also fully coated in marine-grade, powder-coated aluminium, which again supports the longevity of your new thermal feature.

When used together, timber and aluminium have the ability to aid temperature control because they preserve the interior temperature, whilst protecting your home from nature’s elements! Combined, they ensure your home stays warm and comfortable. The qualities of these premium materials add real value to your home, should you ever want to sell.

Sustainability

Where temperature is concerned, the environment must also be considered. At Aliwood, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. The manner in which we create our double glazing may be a larger upfront cost than other cheaper options that are widely available; but our product is eco-friendlier in a variety of ways. Importantly, you will use less gas and electricity long-term, which saves you more money and does not deplete the earth of its resources. Furthermore, by offering protection against UV rays and protecting your furniture; you will not have to replace your furnishings, saving you money whilst reducing landfill.

At Aliwood, we source all of our timber from FSC certified forests, which is significantly more eco-friendly, when compared to using tropical hardwoods or PVCU. We have also lowered our transportation emissions by obtaining our timber from Europe rather than America and always use local suppliers for all other roof lantern materials. We aim to enable you to remain sustainable whist transforming your home.
