Timber roof lanterns are a must have when upgrading your home.
As we head into autumn, if you are considering renovating your home it’s likely that you’re also deliberating the effect it will have on your comfort. For all the pleasure that a new space brings, it’s natural to worry about, for example, increased utility bills and if you need to put on your slippers a month earlier.
Luckily, this need not be a concern as in fact, our roof lanterns can aid in maintaining temperatures. We use resilient and durable materials which not only look aesthetically pleasing, but support the fluctuating changes in weather we have come to not just know, but expect, here in the South East of England.
Timber and Aluminium
We use premium grade knot free Redwood timber, which is renowned for its heavy-duty lifespan and appealing design; the exceptional quality of wood makes it a staple in timber roof lantern installations. Our designs are also fully coated in powder-coated aluminium, which again supports the longevity of your new feature.
When combined, these two materials have the ability to contribute to temperature control, because they preserve the interior temperature, whilst protecting your home from whatever mother nature is throwing your way. The manner in which these two materials complement each other ensure your home not only stays at the temperature you are most comfortable at, but offers a lasting feature, unlike the conservatories of yore, as the materials we use for the build itself are premium, this adds real value to your home should you ever want to sell.

Thermal Insulation
Further to all the aforementioned benefits of a timber roof lantern, our dedicated team here at Aliwood go that one step further to ensure quality in every element of our designs. We use thermal breaks in our builds, as they have low thermal conductivity, which prevents thermal energy from passing through. Our thermal breaks are made from resin, silicone, and Styrofoam. This puts an air cap in-between the components, which provides an insulating layer of air; providing you with consistent temperatures in your home.
When we place the glass into your new design, we use an e-coating, which is also known as low emissivity glass. This is recognised for its heating and cooling energy depending on the temperature of your room or house. Our e-coating also blocks infrared light from infiltrating through the glass. Also, our e-coating protects against UV rays too, protecting all your fabrics and furniture from colour-fading.
Additionally, we offer a wide variety of glazing options, to retain even more heat within your home. We use insulated glazing with 4-16-4mm toughened glass. Moreover, our high-quality glass acts as a sound barrier, preventing external disruptions and providing additional security to your home.

Sustainability
Here at Aliwood, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. We believe that every business should be accountable and positively contribute to the earth. For example, the manner in which we create our double glazing may be a larger upfront cost than the many cheaper options that are widely available; but it’s eco-friendlier in a variety of ways. You will use less gas and electricity in the long run, which saves you money and does not deplete the earth of its resources. Furthermore, by offering protection against UV rays and protecting your furniture; you will not have to replace your furnishings. Again, this saves you money whilst reducing landfill.
We source all our timber from FSC certified forests. This is a considerably more sustainable method compared to using tropical hardwoods or PVCU. We also have lowered our transportation emissions by obtaining our timber from Europe rather than America, while using local suppliers for all other materials. Aliwood care, meaning you can transform your home, while remaining sustainable!
