Family loves new Aliwood Roof Lantern, and so does Channel 4’s Love It or List It!
27 Jan
This week, we were very excited to hear that one of our Aliwood roof lanterns was due to feature in Channel 4’s Love It or List It - Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer’s new home improvement TV show.
Although a new feature in the property, the roof lantern attracted attention from both presenters and the film crew of the home improvement show alike, and most importantly, our client could not be happier with it.
‘I spent a long time searching for the right product.’
‘Our family home has a unique style,’ explains new Aliwood owner, John Antoniou. ‘It’s a property with a lot of history attached to it, and we love the building’s period features. However, the layout towards the back of the house had a strange layout and always felt a bit mismatched. The rooms were oddly separated, for example, we had to carry our dinner from the kitchen, through a snug seating area, and then into a completely different dining room. Generally, the interiors lacked flow and were not very practical for modern living.’

An ideal solution that brings light into the home
Wanting to transform the layout at the back of the family home, John and wife Susan opted for an extension to open up the back rooms, create more space and help merge the rooms. As the property was south facing at the back, he knew it had great potential if he could encourage natural light into the space.
‘Because the extension featured a flat pitch roof, we had the opportunity to fit a roof lantern and decided that it was the best option for us. We thought it would be easy to obtain some quotes, but I ended up spending a lot of time looking for the right kind of product. I didn’t want a standard uPVC roof lantern, as it wouldn’t suit the character of the house, but I still wanted something that would be tough and durable.’
When John and Susan discovered Aliwood, they were impressed with its unique design. Internally, we construct our Aliwood roof lanterns from premium quality, knot-free laminated Redwood timber for a classic look. On the outside, it is fully capped with powder-coated aluminium. This innovative combination guarantees that no timber elements are exposed to the elements, eliminating the risk of weathering, water ingress or leakages.

Guaranteed to transform your interiors
‘When we finally discovered the Aliwood Roof Lantern, we knew it was ideal. It ticked all the boxes, with an aluminium exterior to protect the lantern from the elements and wood on the inside to complement our home’s period aesthetic,’ John explains. We offered Mr. Antoniou a supply and install service, so all he had to do was relax and look forward to enjoying his newly transformed home. Ever since then, the family has had nothing but positive comments from everyone who sees the roof lantern, including well-known TV presenters, Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer.
Delighted with the results of their renovation, the Antoniou’s were excited to feature in an episode of Love It or List It, a new series destined to be a favourite with property enthusiasts. In each episode, Phil Spencer tries to encourage a homeowner to ‘list’ their property on the market and buy a new house, where Kirstie Allsopp tries to convince them that through clever renovation works, you can fall in ‘love’ with your existing home again.

A roof lantern that has the wow factor!
‘The Aliwood roof lantern received very positive comments from Kirsty and Phil during filming! The closing scene of the episode shows us all sitting around the table, talking about the roof lantern’s qualities. Everyone loved it because it was such a prominent feature in the middle of the extension.’
‘The roof lantern makes such an impact in the new dining room, and everyone who walks into the room says they love it. It brings in so much light, but it also has presence, it is a real showstopper! Even our builder had roof lantern envy! We love sitting under it as a family, it’s even nice in the awful British weather! You can listen to the raindrops and water trickling down the roof, and you feel safe and sheltered underneath.’

Tune in to Love it or List It on the 29th January at 8pm on Channel 4 to see the Antoniou family’s new Aliwood roof lantern. Get in touch with Aliwood now!
