How long do bespoke roof lanterns take to manufacture?

One of these that pops up often is how long they take to manufacture. Of course, this differs from different companies. In this blog, Aliwood are going to talk you through the manufacturing process of our products, what our products are made of, and how you can go about installing your roof lantern.

Who are we?

Firstly, let us introduce ourselves. Aliwood are a quality timber roof lantern designer and manufacturer based in Essex. We distribute and install our products within the county and deliver a supply only service nationwide. Our products come from the knowledge and expertise of our sister company, Westbury. Aliwood is a new business venture from Westbury, who have been manufacturing roof lanterns and bespoke orangeries for over 30 years. Our new, modern style of roof lantern has the same high performance of a Westbury product, but with the benefit of being able to be incorporated into any flat roof extension at an affordable price. We are experts in our field and are passionate about providing customers with the bespoke roof lanterns that have been manufactured with precision, skill and impeccable attention to detail.

Where our bespoke roof lanterns are manufactured 

We manufacture our bespoke roof lanterns in our factory and workshop in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex. Any potential customers are more than welcome to come and visit us and take a tour to see the craftsmanship that goes into our products.

The materials used in our bespoke roof lanterns

Here at Aliwood, we only use the best materials to manufacture our products. The timber we use is a premium grade, knot-free, laminated Redwood. This wood is highly durable and is obtained from FSC certified forests to ensure a sustainable approach to sourcing materials. Redwood timber is a great alternative to tropical hardwoods and PVC, as it has minimal environmental impact. This timber can also aid with heat retention within the winter months.

The timber frame is covered with powder-coated aluminium. This capping provides protection of the timber and guarantees that it is not exposed to any elements, stopping water leakages and ingress. We also use a timber-resin composite for our finals (which can be a ball or cap style). This, as opposed to solid timber, will not split over time and will last for decades.

Our glass is 4/16/4mm toughened glass that has a soft low-e coating. This protects your furniture and the inside of your house from the effects of the suns UV rays, reducing fading. The panes are double glazed with an argon gas-filled cavity that will ensure your home is properly insulated, no matter the season. The strength of our glass offers heightened security for your home and reduces noise from outside. 

Manufacturing time

The bespoke roof lanterns that we offer at Aliwood go through a manufacturing process that has been perfected to a fine art. This means we are able to offer relatively shorter lead times on our products when it comes to manufacturing and delivery. The average lead time from order to delivery is 4-8 weeks.

One thing that won’t affect the time of manufacturing is the shapes and sizes of our bespoke roof lanterns. This is due to the efficient ways we cut our timber frames. We program the size into our CNC machines and feed in the timber, which will then cut it to size. The only thing that takes a little longer if you purchase a bigger lantern, is the painting. This way of working is environmentally friendly because it reduces the amount waste and offcuts.

Installing your roof lantern

As previously mentioned, our installation services are only available in Essex. We offer a supply only service within the rest of the UK. Our bespoke roof lanterns will be delivered in easy to construct component parts, along with a full set of instructions and an simple installation video to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible. We would recommend setting aside 3-4 hours to fit your lantern, depending on its size. The construction will also need a minimum of two people, so make sure you are prepared for this.

With our supply and install service, the delivery and installation will be included in the price of your quote and will vary depending on your location.
