How Roof Lanterns Can Help You Make the Most of Shorter Days

Autumn is here!

We can hardly believe it’s come around so quickly and it’s that time of year again. At Aliwood, we welcome a change in season as it’s yet another opportunity to showcase the beauty of our beautiful, bespoke roof lanterns.

Of course, with the change in season comes a change in the weather, the days become shorter and the evenings draw in, but it’s not all doom and gloom, especially when you have a roof lantern. In fact, we believe they can really help you to make the most of the shorter days and embrace Autumn. Let us take a closer look at how a roof lantern can enhance those limited hours of daylight.

Light and Longevity

With the sun rising later and setting earlier, those hours of daylight become a little more sacred. With our timber roof lanterns, you can savour every moment of daylight, whether you’re working from home or pottering around your living room on a lazy Sunday. Our roof lanterns have a way of letting light into your home, so that space is optimised and opened from above. Brightness cascades from the glass panels and into your chosen room, creating a fresh and inviting atmosphere in the colder months. Nothing is more pleasing than a hot cup of something beneath the hazy Autumn sunshine.

Alongside filling your home with light, timber roof lanterns can also save you a lot of money over time. A roof lantern means you won’t have to use as much electricity to light the rooms in your home; this guarantees smaller household bills. Additionally, timber roof lanterns are meant to retain heat in the colder months, so you won’t have to worry about losing any warmth after the heating has been on.

The way our lanterns are built enhance insulating properties. They’re double-glazed toughened glass, with a low E coating. Unlike many other roof lanterns, ours are crafted using a marine-grade, powder-coated aluminium frame, so none of the timber frame is exposed. This ensures no cold spots that can draw condensation, which is very important in rooms with high humidity such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Cold weak spots are known as cold bridges and to minimise the heat loss in our products, Aliwood use thermal breaks. Thermal breaks are pieces of material that are put into the frame to reduce the heat loss. Our products have rubber gaskets to separate the conductive aluminium components.

Appreciating Nature

There’s nothing more satisfying that watching the changing seasons from the comfort of your own home. Aliwood roof lanterns ensure that you have the best view, helping you to make the most of the shorter days. Being surrounded by natural light, wildlife and flora can really benefit our mental health and wellbeing. After the past 18 months we’ve had, we’ve realised that it’s the little things that make the most difference; those autumnal afternoons appreciating nature and watching the world go by can certainly have the most positive impact on our day to day lives.

Autumnal Inspiration

We can really appreciate the daylight at the weekends, when we have more time to ourselves. Why not indulge in a few Autumnal inspired activities to truly make the most of your roof lantern? Enhance its beauty with some decorative natural foliage. You’d be surprised at what you can find on your doorstep! You could even consider making an autumnal wreath to welcome friends and family as we begin to see each other regularly again!

Layering in the home is always on trend this time of year. Neutral, cosy throws, blankets and cushions look beautiful on the sofa and can really help to create that sense of warm homeliness. You can pick up candle clusters for a reasonable price at your local supermarket – be sure to make the most of the autumn inspired fragrances. We’re talking pumpkin spice, spiced fig and salted caramel to fill your home with indulgent aromas. Delicious!

It’s those little touches that will not only help you to make the most of your roof lantern, but also help to make the most of the shorter days, especially when you’re at home.

Cosy October

Inevitably, the days end and the evenings close in. Timber roof lanterns can make the cooler Autumnal evenings cosy, and not just because they retain heat! You can settle down with a hot chocolate to enjoy the starry views from above. Or cosy up with a film or a good book whilst the rain pitter patters outside. There is always comfort to be had when you’re snug inside and it’s dismal out!
