Making the Most of National Homemade Day with Your Lantern Roof Conservatory

This year it falls on April 2nd and with Spring here, it’s the perfect to time to enhance your home and lantern roof conservatory with homemade trinkets and treats for yourself, family and friends to enjoy. Here are some of Aliwood’s favourite homemade activities to get you started.

Flower Displays

Florals around this time of year look beautiful. They add a touch of nature to any room and are a colourful addition that can open up and refresh a space. There is plenty of variety about and many different ways that you can use flowers this homemade day. The simplest way to spruce up your home is to buy some of your favourite flowers and put them in a gorgeous vase or ceramic. You can always tie the florals with a piece of rustic twine or a spring like ribbon to give them that little bit extra.

With the sun shining, why not go for a walk and see what you can find? If you’ve got some smaller vases, you can always pop some large, handpicked daises and buttercups in them to brighten up your dinging table or favourite coffee spot. Foliage spread across the dining table is a great way to inject a little personal, homemade touch to your décor too.

When the flowers are just past their best, you can dry them to make a beautiful display in you lantern roof conservatory. Simply combine your flowers into small bunches, removing all foliage from the main stems. Then, tie the base of the stems with a length of string and hang them upside down in a cool, dry place for at least two weeks.

Baking and Cooking

It wouldn’t be national handmade day without spending some time in the kitchen! Don’t worry, if you’re not Nigella, it’s okay! Wreaths mark a change of season and are the prefect homemade accessory to create this Saturday. You can get hold of a wire wreath frame to start, or a wreath making kit from any craft shop. Select the foliage and flora you’d like to use – top tip, use some moss to pad out the first layer of the wreath, or it could look a little ‘gappy’.

Be sure to secure the foliage in small bunches with some flexible wire reel to keep it all in place. Add a loop for hanging and you’re good to go! The great thing about creating a wreath from scratch is that you can tailor it to your exact taste! You can use your favourite foliage and colours, hang them anywhere in your home at different heights, or go classic and attach it to your door to welcome guests this season.
