The team here at Aliwood, proud manufacturers of bespoke timber lanterns, wanted to look at each season individually, and talk about what each offered.
When most people think of timber roof lanterns, they instantly think of the plentiful sunlight they help provide a home. After all, this is one of their main selling points, who doesn’t love more sunlight and positivity in their lives? But life isn’t all about sunshine and rainbows, it’s about experiencing emotions in the fullest way possible, whatever those emotions happen to be. Whether it’s a melancholic Monday or a glowing, autumnal evening, a timber lantern can help you realise your feelings more fully than ever before.

Autumn
Perhaps the least-celebrated of all the seasons, autumn still provides us with wonderful changes in landscape and brilliant hues of red and orange that splash the country’s landscape. In autumn, you’ll find rust-coloured lives blowing onto the panes of your timber lantern. A reminder to the family that it’s beginning to get to the time of year where hunkering down and getting cosy is just what the doctor ordered. Autumn is a season of transition, one of change, and that is no bad thing. We have to keep moving one way or another in our lives, and nothing quite sums that up like autumn does.

Winter
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Sorry, I had to! Fierce winter storms and sprinklings of snow (if we’re lucky) batter and pattern, respectively, against the timber lantern’s pane. Our children stare in wonder at the bleak, bare landscapes that surround us, whilst wrapped up to the nines in coats, socks and tightly wound scarves. Winter is a time for getting closer to one another, a time to learn and a time to grow as individuals.

Spring
The season of rebirth and fresh starts, in spring we emerge from the dark depths of winter with renewed vigour. The light that dapples through the timber lantern in spring is different, brighter, somehow. The skies overhead change quickly, sometimes by the hour. April showers, storm clouds, brilliant sunshine and then repeat, once again. Looking up through your lantern, it must be said that of all the seasons, the changeable nature of spring brings with it the greatest display. It’s hard not to be enthused by spring, by the little lambs and the green shoots. There are few things that put bigger smiles on faces than a fresh, springtime walk.

Summer
The long days and light of summer bring with them family holidays, activities with the kids and social gatherings. Family events and barbecues with friends are the order of the day in the summer months. Beams of natural light pour through the roof lantern, bringing with them oodles of positivity, a boost in mood and a generally more optimistic outlook on life. Summer offers us all a chance to take a step back to appreciate the ‘bigger-picture’ ideas in life. It allows us to think you know what? Life’s not too bad and we’re doing OK. Something which is vital in today’s digital, fast-paced world of anxiety.

If one thing is clear, is that a timber lantern helps enrich your home and your life the whole year around. To paraphrase a well-known charitable slogan from the past: “A timber lantern is for life, not just for summer.”
