A roof lantern normally sits flat on top of a large roof in your home and is a highly effective way to not only bring more natural light to your property but also reduce your energy usage!
There is a process to designing any roof lantern which all companies should explain to you before installing a timber roof lantern. There are reasons behind why the team here at Aliwood want you to understand what they are and the reasons behind why we use only the finest quality timber. If you’re going to pay some money for a feature which is a selling point of your home, you want only the finest quality, right? They’re a feature in themselves and sit well in a darker room and thus allow more light into the room from above! Read this blog to understand a little bit more about the technical side of things and gain some more information about the materials that we use!
Timber
First, our lanterns are structured through fine quality timber. The timber roof lanterns are designed and manufactured from a premium grade knot-free laminated Redwood timber, which is due to its amazing durability and stability. This type of timber has its own thermal qualities to aid heat to your home in those upcoming colder months towards the dreaded C word, not Covid, but Christmas!

Aluminium
Our lanterns are then entirely capped with powder-coated aluminium to ensure durability and protection against weather conditions. We all know what it’s like living in the UK with the weather being so unpredictable and for three quarters of the year, is raining! That’s why we guarantee no timber elements are exposed to the outside and thus preventing any water damage or leakages!

Finials
Our timber roof lanterns have finials which are made from timber-resin composite, ensuring they last for years upon years! This is far more effective than using timber finials which can split rapidly over time, ruin the aesthetic to the roof lantern and sometimes, expose your home to water damage. Depending on taste, you can finish the finial’s look with either a ball or cap style shape.

What are the advantages of a timber roof lantern?
The list is endless! Not only can they introduce more natural light into your property and increase the value of your home, but they are so aesthetically pleasing both internally and externally! They have a subtle manner to them too, which means they integrate into your property well and naturally give an appeal. Many often forget the fact that having more natural light in your property can bring a number of health benefits which we recently wrote about here!

If you’re considering having a timber roof lantern installed on your property, ensure you check with the company what materials they use and whether they’re nothing but the best.
